Column - Delay

I've decided to write a column every month, sharing my lessons from the past month with you. As you've come to expect from me; honest, vulnerable, and with a touch of humor.

This column was delayed. And so was I.
Want a boy, life happened last month.
Sometimes there are months where you just flutter through, and everything feels light.

That wasn't this month.

Life hit the brakes multiple times. Especially due to a sick toddler who brought virus after virus home. A more fitting name for a daycare would be "The Germ House." Or "The Snot Palace.".

Anyway, the only thing you can do when life happens to you is step further into surrender.

Accept. Accept. Accept.
Too often I have resisted and asked myself:

”Why is this happening to me now?“

With the emphasis on something different each time.
Sometimes on this.
Sometimes on my.
And sometimes on now.

By now I can quickly get into surrender mode. Into acceptance mode. Because I know that resisting what is constantly only costs me energy.

The Buddha describes suffering as follows:

  • You want something that doesn't exist.

Of

  • You don't want something that exists.

Think carefully about that.

How often do you want something that you haven't achieved yet?
A specific goal, target weight, or revenue target.

And how often do you not want something that exists?
Insecurity in yourself, rain while cycling, or illnesses in loved ones.

The only recipe is therefore rest. Acceptance.
And especially staying connected with myself

Because if I surrender, I can take care of my child. If I resist what is, I will only become more frustrated.

And that, of course, comes with its own challenges.
But it is something you can train.
By accepting all the small things that come your way. And no longer getting frustrated. Annoyed.

Start your day by saying out loud to yourself:

”Today I embrace everything that comes my way“

And don't forget to put on your best smile afterwards.
