I've received this request several times: Hey Hilde, I want to start meditating, do you have any tips?
Of course, I'd be happy to make a list of my favorites for you.
In the beginning of my “meditation adventure,” I really enjoyed doing guided meditations, a list of which you can find below. Don't be too hard on yourself at first. Meditation is going better and better, but I still regularly think about grocery lists, loads of laundry, or emails I need to reply to during meditation. The goal of meditation is never to completely “turn off” your thoughts (though that sounds nice sometimes haha ;-)).
Meditation is learning to observe your thoughts and see them pass by. If you consciously practice this for 5 or 10 minutes a day, you will also learn to do it better in everyday life.. This way, you're less easily swayed by every external stimulus, thus remaining focused and more relaxed.
Nowadays, I prefer to meditate with a timer. I'm using the Insight Timer app, Then I set a 10-minute timer with very soft background music. This app is free! The paid version (€5 per month) does allow you to skip through meditations, listen offline, and follow courses.
I've also created a nice 10-minute morning session especially for busy people, this includes everything: meditating, journaling, visualizing, and a few yoga exercises. You can find the session here.
Ik luisterde eerst wel veel meditaties via YouTube, maar met al die reclames ben ik daar een beetje vanaf gestapt. In addition, I follow many Yoga Nidra sessions. Yoga Nidra means “sleep yoga.”. Did you know that half an hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 3 to 3.5 hours of deep sleep?I find Yoga Nidra in the evening really nice and notice that I wake up feeling more refreshed immediately.
